Kathak - The Dance of the Storytellers

Kathak is found in three different forms called ‘gharanas’ named after the cities where the tradition evolved- Lucknow, Banaras, Jaipur. The three distinct schools of Kathak developed over time. Each school has its own distinct style and characteristics that differentiates it from the other. While the Banaras and Lucknow gharanas focus on facial expressions and graceful hand movements, the Jaipur gharana focuses on foot movements.
